Daily Living Skills Development

Practical skills for real life: at home, at school and in the community.

The ultimate goal of everything we do is a more independent life and fuller participation in the community. So we do not stop at skills inside the training room; we take them home, to school, into the street and the shop. Our daily living skills service is aimed at older children, adolescents and young adults with special needs in Amman and across Jordan who are preparing for a more independent stage of life.

We work on skills such as handling money and buying, shopping with a list, preparing simple meals safely, using a phone and essential apps, telling the time and keeping to schedules, moving around safely and crossing the street, following the rules of public places, and everyday social skills such as asking for help, waiting in line and greeting people.

We teach in real situations whenever possible, or in realistic simulations at the centre before moving to the real environment, because a skill that does not transfer to daily life has not yet been mastered.

Who is it for?

  • Adolescents and young adults preparing for a more independent life
  • Learners with special needs who need hands-on training
  • Families who want skills generalised into the community

What we do

  • Priority life skills identified together with the family
  • Hands-on training in real or simulated situations
  • Generalisation plans for home, school and community
  • Regular follow-up and progress reviews

Expected outcomes

  • Greater participation in daily life and the community
  • Less reliance on others
  • Better readiness for the next stages of life

Step by step

How the service works

  1. 01

    Priorities set with the family

Together we choose the skills needed most now and for the next stage: school, work or independent living.

  2. 02

    Task analysis and structured teaching

Every skill is broken into steps and practised at the centre in realistic simulations, with performance measured.

  3. 03

    Community-based training

Sessions in real settings: the shop, the street, the kitchen, public transport, supervised and with a clear safety plan.

  4. 04

    Generalisation and maintenance

A home and community plan with the family, and regular follow-up until the skill holds across different environments.

What parents ask about this service

Can't find your question? Call us and we'll answer directly.

We focus on older children, adolescents and young adults, but some skills start very early; we decide what is appropriate after the assessment.

Yes, when the skill is ready and the family agrees, with a clear safety plan. Before that we practise in simulations at the centre.

Life skills are the foundation of any vocational preparation: being on time, following instructions, dealing with people. We build these foundations and point families to suitable vocational rehabilitation programmes in Jordan when needed.

With step checklists for every skill and the prompt level at each step, at the centre and in the real environment, to make sure the skill has generalised.
